レジデンス1年5ヶ月と24日目

今年半年はほとんどペインティングを描かずに、ドローイングと称する立体、プレ・ペインティングと称する半立体作品ばかり作っていました。
しっちゃかめっちゃかのスタジオを訪れた人には、やりたい放題、とよく言われましたが、私としてはキャンヴァス上ではなくスペース上にペインティングのようなものをつくってみたらどうなるのかな、と思ってのリサーチでした。
でもそういうものばかり作ってみて思ったのは、作ることと見ることを同スペースで混在させるのが物理的に難しいということでした。
その点でキャンヴァス、というのは便利なもの、助けになるものだと思いました。

そろそろスタジオ内の全スペースを使い切って身動きが取れなくなってきたので、余っていた小さなスタジオをもらって、そこに動かせるものは移動させたので、もとのスタジオに絵を描くスペースができました。うれしかったわ。

An Extra Studio

I did not paint much during the first half of this year. Instead of painting, I have been working on what I call ‘drawings’ (three-dimensional works) and ‘pre-paintings’ (semi-three-dimensional works).
For me, it was a research to see what happens if I try to create a ‘painting’ in a space not on canvas.
What I’ve learned from these experiments is that it is difficult to deal with the processes of ‘creating’ and ‘seeing’ in the same space.
In this respect, I realized, a canvas is something helpful and useful.

Since there was no more room in my studio, I asked for a small space for my extra studio, and moved some of my stuff there. Now I have some space in my studio. I can finally paint. Good.
